About XL Millennium Travel

The executive management team comprises Linda Benwell (managing director), Grace Ruivo (financial director) and Nicole Nielsen (sales director).

Linda Benwell has been in the travel industry since 1974, having been trained by the Holiday Inn group. In 1987 she was awarded a Rotary Business Scholarship and was sent to the USA to study the marketing aspects of tourism in the hospitality industry.
Her skills lie in her organising ability, the calmness with which she manages, and her vast experience in the logistics management of large and small international groups.

Grace Ruivo controls all the financial aspects of the group. She has over 30 years' experience in accounts in the travel industry.

Nicole Nielsen has been in travel and hotel industries since 1976. She has an in-depth knowledge of the conference industry and has earned a reputation of finding creative solutions for clients in a fix.

Ownership

Equity in XL Millennium Travel is held by BEE partners and Millennium Travel staff. In 2004, XL Millennium Travel took steps to become compliant with the broad-based Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) Act, selling equity to BEE partners Mervyn and Brenda Cookson, who acquired 25.1% shareholding in XL Millennium Travel. Mervyn is Chairman of the board of directors and Brenda is a director.

Affiliations

The company is affiliated to the International Air Travel Association (IATA), the Association of South African Travel Agents (ASATA) and the Association for the Conference Industry (SAACI) and is accredited with Top Professional Conference Organiser status by many leading hotel groups.
XL Millennium Travel is the appointed travel company serving the needs of the
70 000 members of the South African Association of Retired Persons.

Staff

XL Millennium Travel prides itself on finding, training and retaining the best staff. Staff own 49% of the company. The staff is 100% female.
